I wrote HOW many stories this year? :)
First, a little background:
I joined LJ in October of 2006 (first post in November), and posted my first story, Announcement I: The Ready Room, in December of 2006. It was a Clark/Bruce tale, and the remaining 3 stories for that year were of that pairing as well.
I counted each year’s stories, and broke them down by pairing, which I’ll discuss below the stats. I used the following method: simple counting, but if a multi-chapter story started in one year and ended in the next, I counted the year it began. Time And Place was posted in 2006 and ended in early 2007.
Naturally I counted a pairing if they were the focus of the story, but if they shared equal ‘screen time’ with another couple or couples, that story was also counted as theirs. In some of my multiple pairing stories, several couples could count it as their story (Strange Brew, The Jig’s Up!, and many others). Ollie/Dinah, for instance, have a number of 8 in the past three years, but only 1 story was written with them as the lead couple. The rest are stories they share with others. So if anyone bothered to total the pairings and the story totals, the pairings would be a higher total than the stories.
Here are the statistics, broken down by year and pairing/threesome:
|Bruce & Dick (Gen)||0||3||3||4|
Well, life is certainly ironic. I started out 2009 certain that I would have a smaller fic count, though more multi-chaptered stories, but as it turned out, I wrote more than ever before! That was because of picking up three claims tables for the dcu_freeforall Challenge, and I concentrated mainly on Clark/Bruce, Bruce/Dick, and Steve/Diana in DC Comics fandom. Sadly that meant neglect of a lot of other pairings. While my three main pairings pretty much stayed around the same numbers, some pairings’ numbers dropped (Dick/Roy went from 7 to 4) or disappeared altogether (Diana/Dinah and Selina/Dinah). Why my femslash Muses with the exception of Linda/Barbara decided to cut out on me is a question, but perhaps that will change in 2010.
DC Comics remained my most prolific fandom, but as anyone who has been reading my journal the past year knows, I picked up a brand-new fandom, Public Enemies, in July. I started writing fic for it almost as soon as I got home, and created a comm called guns_fedoras because I wanted to read PE fic, which seemed to be non-existent on the Net. Happily that has been resolved, as much fic, art, and other goodies have been posted there. :)
I started out with gen stories that pretty much stuck to movie canon, but this slasher was inspired by a sizzling scene between the two main characters, Melvin Purvis and John Dillinger, so I started writing Mel/Johnny slash and never looked back. ;) In six months’ time I wrote 14 fics for this couple, not as many as Clark/Bruce (33), but equal to Bruce/Dick (14) and close to Steve/Diana (18). My other favorite ‘ship was a threesome, Mel/Johnny/Billie, which had 3 stories, and there were many other pairings that I tried my hand at. The fandom came along at just the right time, as I was starting to burn out in DC, but once PE caught my fancy, I was re-energized for DC again! :)
I did have a flurry of activity with other fandoms: the original Battlestar Galactica pairing of Apollo/Starbuck, with 3 stories, Star Trek (TOS and 1 mixed with XI) for 3 (Kirk/Spock and Spock/McCoy), and Hogan’s Heroes with 1 (Hogan/Kinch).
One of my goals for 2009 was to complete at least half of my claims tables and I did that, filling 29 of 45 prompts. I hope to finish the tables in 2010, but if I can complete at least 1 of the 3 tables, I’ll be happy. The thing is, most of the prompts left either involve a lot of research or are plotted out as long fics, so the filling of the prompts will be slower this year.
My goals in 2010 are to work on the claims tables, keep up the Challenges I host, and perhaps go back to some stories I started in early 2009 and see if I can finish them in 2010. Despite burn-out after writing 9 holiday fics, I feel confident that I will be re-energized at some point. The Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, Wonder Woman, and Public Enemies DVDs are fresh sources of inspiration, and there’s always Rainbow’s Freedom! Two more arcs of that Epic were posted in 2009! :)
The total has gone progressively higher each year: 2006 (4), 2007 (83), 2008 (99), and 2009 (110) for a grand total of 296 in four years! :)
