Author’s Notes: This story was inspired by Mary Renault’s The Persian Boy. Alexander the Great’s men accepted their leader’s indulgence, who happened to be Bagoas, the Persian Boy, an ex-slave who shared Alexander’s bed. They didn’t object to him being male but that he was a barbarian (non-Greek). It showed their love and respect for Alexander when they accepted Bagoas, and learned to respect him in his own right.
Canon is a jumping-off point but I changed several things, including the survival of Johnny’s gang, as their dynamic was important to this story.
Mostly this is drama with elements of romance, so I said what the heck and included that in the Genre. :)
Yeah, this was going to be a one-shot, albeit a long one, but the boys were just too much fun to play with. ;)
So, enjoy this story of seduction, sex, and a touch of Stockholm Syndrome. ;)

DARK AND BEAUTIFUL
Silky and smooth.
On the tongue.
"Food Of The Gods"
Johnny had an idea that just wouldn’t leave him. He wanted to show his men that Mel had prowess in more than just the bedroom.
“Are you crazy, John? Giving Purvis a gun?”
Red threw his hands up.
Mel squeezed the shot off, and then more in rapid succession. Homer and Russell had guns trained on him, but with only blanks in his rifle, he wasn’t going to try anything. Besides, he liked being in one piece, and if he was foolish enough to ‘get cute’, Homer and Russell would blow him in two.
Of course, Johnny had said he was already cute. The man was insatiable!
He was proud of his marksmanship skills. He might be Johnny’s indulgence in bed, but he wanted to show off his other talents.
The men were impressed. He’d seen the same looks on the faces of his fellow Academy cadets when he’d first joined the Bureau.
The clearing was a good spot for target practice, a cool breeze wafting through, ruffling his hair. He could feel Johnny's proud eyes on him.
New targets were set up and he easily mowed them down, the empty beer bottles shattering as the blanks hit. Blanks couldn’t work the same way as bullets, but they could cause damage.
His ankles were chained together, hindering any chance at escape. He had been surprised to see the heavy leg irons. Johnny had never used them before, for which Mel was grateful.
After the last target practice was done, Johnny wrapped his hand around Mel’s. “Thanks for the exhibition, Agent Purty.” He gently tugged the rifle away, Red handcuffing Mel again after removing the leg irons.
Mel was trying to guess Johnny’s next move. He had more exercise now but still had hours to fill in this bed.
He wrote a report in his head, omitting certain details, of course. He would have to be careful. His career would be over and his reputation shot if it became public (even private) knowledge that he had shared John Dillinger’s bed.
He was completely willing. People might say that it was rape, but they would still blame him, just as they blamed female rape victims.
But he would never let people think that. He could never do that to Johnny. The man hadn’t raped him and had never intended to do so.
And that would complicate things for the gangster. The public whose support he needed would dislike a rapist, especially a gay one.
But they would despise a willing homosexual relationship even more.
Mel stared up at the ceiling. He’d memorized the whitewashed swirling pattern a long time ago.
Could he go back to his old life without regrets? Could he pursue Public Enemy No. 1 with his old zeal? Or would he always hesitate, even for a fraction of a second?
Hoover would expect him to use his new insights into John’s character for the pursuit. And if Mel hesitated enough, the man would know it. He had a sixth sense about these things.
Mel sighed, tiredly rubbing between his eyes. So many things to think about, and he with a headache creeping behind his eyes. Going back to a life…
His hand stilled.
There, he’d said it.
Even if only to himself.
He folded his hands over his stomach as he stared at the ceiling. He thought of everything that had happened to him since his capture that wild night at Little Bohemia.
Despite being chained up since then, he had never felt more free.
He closed his eyes.
Johnny came in, carrying a brown paper grocery bag. He set it on the floor next to the rocking chair.
“Agent Baum was released from the hospital.”
Mel felt great relief. “Thank you for telling me.”
Johnny smiled. He reached down and picked up the bag, setting it on the bed.
“I got you something.”
Curious, Mel put his hand into the bag and drew out a box wrapped in gold paper. He glanced at Johnny, who was wearing a crooked grin.
Mel carefully unwrapped the paper, eyes widening as he saw the contents.
“Go on, open it.”
Mel eagerly lifted the lid, inhaling the rich scent of dark chocolate.
“Belgian!” Mel was delighted. He took a chocolate and savored it, his face orgasmically blissful. Johnny laughed.
“Oh, I’m sorry! My manners!” Mel held the box out, Johnny choosing a chocolate.
“Thank you.” Mel’s voice was gentle as his dark eyes sparkled.
Dark and beautiful.
“Should I offer these to your men?”
“Now that’s a fine notion, Mel, and right generous, but let’s keep this between us, eh?”
Mel smiled. “All right.” He ran his tongue over his lips. “How about another taste of chocolate?”
Johnny grinned. He sat on the bed and kissed Mel, tasting bittersweet chocolate.
Dark and beautiful.
