The game started out like a typical fourth preseason game: the Patriots second-and-third-stringers started out against the Giants’ first-stringers and were getting crushed 21-0 in the first quarter. Being a diehard and relaxing as I wrote in my notebook, I figured to stick with the game, and I was glad I did. Even though the Patriots’ first-stringers never saw the field, the game got interesting as third-string QB Brian Hoyer, an undrafted free agent, got a chance to show his stuff. He improved as the game went on, and brought the team back to eventually win 38-27 (the Giants only played their first-stringers in the first quarter). Fifth-string running back Ben-Jarvus Green-Ellis was unstoppable and may have played his way onto the roster. Other rookies and free agents showed what they could do, and there will be tough decisions to make by 4:00 tomorrow, when the rosters must be cut down to 53 (and 8 on the practice squad).
Last night second-string QB Andrew Walter didn't even see the field and was released today. So the Patriots liked what they saw in Brian Hoyer! And they'd also just released their third-round draft pick from last year, Kevin O'Connell. He was the young QB they were supposed to be grooming but obviously didn't have what they were looking for to be released in his second year after being a fairly high draft pick. But then, Tom Brady was a sixth-rounder and they stuck with him despite his low draft status because they saw something in him. ;)
Tom looked very relaxed on the sideline, tanned and with streaks of blond in his hair, which could have been natural or highlights. ;) He was watching every snap, cheering on his teammates, joking with them on the sidelines, and looking very gorgeous and setting a fine example. ;)
And September 14th is their first regular season game: IT'S FOOTBALL SEASON, BABY!!! :)
