2009 DCU Fic/Art Tabloids Challenge!

So, the New Year begins, and I’ve decided to unveil two year-long Challenges for 2009. This one is a one-word prompt: tabloids!

Tabloids are more a part of life than ever with our celebrity mania. Bound to be story/art material there! ;)

The complete Master List is here.

The Challenge is: to write a story or draw/create illos/manips/icons to fit the theme of tabloids. What can you use? Some suggestions (though you can use other tabs or make them up!):

There are the traditional ‘rags’, such as The Enquirer (The Inquisitor in the DCU), the Fleet Street sheets, etc.

There are the ‘entertainment’ sections in respectable newspapers like The Daily Planet and The Gotham Gazette.

There are the TV shows: Entertainment Tonight, Inside Edition, TMZ, etc.

There are the on-line sites.

What about the gossip mavens of the past, like Hollywood’s Hedda Hopper and Louella Parsons? They could make and break careers!

Or if you set your entry in Earth-2’s Golden Age, The Daily Star is the Earth-2 counterpart to The Daily Planet.

Your stories/art can range from the light ‘n’ fluffy to the dark (blackmail). The heroes would be prime subjects for the tabs in the DCU, and let’s not forget some of the secret identities, such as the rich ‘n’ famous Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, Oliver Queen, Roy Harper, etc. And what about the famous Princess from Themyscira? Are the paparazzi mere nuisances? Or will they expose precious secret identities?

I’ll start things off with Jimmarazzi. Yes, I posted it in December, but it’s perfect for this Challenge. It helps to be the mod! ;)

The Usual Suspects:

Genre: Truly an eclectic mix for a Challenge like this! Anything goes: Drama, humor, hurt/comfort, AU, etc.

Pairings (or threesomes, etc. ;) ): Slash, het, gen (this is DCU but if you’d like to write Clex, hey, that fits into the DCU!). Crossovers welcome. Just make sure that the DCU characters get equal ‘screen time’ with your crossover characters.

Rating: G all the way through to NC-17. Any length!

Continuity/‘Verses: Comics, ‘toon, movie, and Smallville (and other TV shows).

Posting dates: January 1-December 31, 2009

The usual request: please link all contributions here on this page. If I get enough entries, I will make a Master List.

I need artistic fans! If you enjoy making banners, I could use your help at the BradyGirl_12 Banners Project.
