Well, it figures that if there was any way the New York Jets could screw us over, they would.
The Patriots took care of business in Buffalo, winning on a windy day 13-0. The goal posts were leaning because of the gale force winds! Unfortunately, they hadn't taken care of business earlier in the season and needed help from the NYJ to get in. Naturally, the Jests choked. An 11-5 team should not be going home!
I'm disappointed, of course. When Tom went down in Week 1 I figured we were screwed. Then things got better and Matt showed that he could play in this league as an NFL quarterback. If our secondary hadn't been so dreadfully porous and nearly every key player injured and lost for the year, we'd be in the playoffs. And today we get the news that Tom may need a second surgery and miss all of 2009! *depressed*
Anyway, the last time the Pats missed the playoffs was in 2002. They beat the Dolphins on the last day of the season in overtime and needed the Green Bay Packers, led by Brett Favre, to beat the NYJ, led by Chad Pennington. Today we needed Brett Favre of the NYJ to beat Chad Pennington of the Miami Dolphins. Mr. Overrated blew it.
Again, the Pats put themselves in this situation, but you can never count on the Jets to win when they need to! Hopefully 'Fredo' Mangini (Jets coach) gets canned. That would be some compensation. ;)
Will I be watching the playoffs? Sure, nothing like playoff football, but my heart won't be engaged until September 2009. :(
