100 Years Ago Today

At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, the Great War ended.

So many were lost in The War To End All Wars, it was truly a Lost Generation.

So many these days no longer know anything about this. I try and tell my son it's important to not forget; at least he understands how history can repeat itself.

Something like this needs to be remembered. It was folly and horror and nearly wiped out an entire generation.

It was the reason why the democracies dragged their feet against Nazi expansion two decades later because they remembered the nightmare of World War I. It was why there was a strong pacifist movement here in the U.S. before Pearl Harbor.

Unfortunately, World War II might've been one of the few wars in which it was necessary to fight, because a world under Nazism and Imperial Japan would not have been a good one. World War I made people hesitate against evil because they knew they were going to pay a high price.

Ever read the accounts of trench warfare and the chemical attacks, flamethrower attacks, and just the miserable conditions of the trenches? It's a miracle every one of those soldiers didn't end up shell-shocked!
