(Preseason) Week 3: New England Patriots 17, Carolina Panthers 16 (2-1) (Friday, August 28, 2015)
Whoops, I forgot to report on last week's preseason game. Oh, well. Preseason doesn't count, after all. :)
Last week the first team offense sputtered and got nowhere, but a lot of the pieces were missing: Gronk, Edelman, LaFell, etc. So Tom didn't get very far, and back-up QB Jimmy Garoppolo did better with his second-stringers, leading the team on five scoring drives. The defense is still trying to find itself. A couple of guys really got burnt on scoring drives by the Saints.
This week the first teamers sputtered again, but when Tom ran the two-minute drill, he scored. And still without his favorite weapons! The defense did well but sad news: fullback James Develin ended up with a right leg injury. Speculation is that he'll be lost for the season. He's not a big name, but he's an important cog in the offense. :(
One more preseason game to go next Thursday against the New York Giants at Gillette Stadium. Most likely the starters won't see the field, just the second-and-third-stringers and the scrubbinis. Then it's Opening Night in Foxboro on September 10th against the Steelers. If Tom doesn't play (we're still waiting for this miscarriage of justice to play out), there is a movement afoot among the fans: #no brady, no banner! That means that on Opening Night, the championship banner won't be raised until Tom is back on the field.
