Oscar!!! Oscar!!! Oscar!!! ;)

Hi, luvs!

I'm enjoying the pre-Oscar Red Carpet Show on E! I love seeing the gowns and jewelry. The actual show itself is a snoozer. ;)

I haven't seen any of the nominated movies this year. My movie buddies and I fell out of our twice-a-month movie routine last year due to weather, work, illness, etc. We haven't started this year due to weather issues, but maybe we can get things going again. It didn't help that last year's crop of good movies was pretty thin.

I enjoy Oscar Night for that buzz of excitement and the gathering of Hollywood. I love going back-and-forth between the world of Fandom/Hollywood and my sports world, even though there are many similarities between them! I have never liked locking myself into one box. I prefer multiple fandoms, both movies and sports, and enjoy diner food as much as a four-star restaurant.

Why limit yourself? Is it a snobbish thing for some people? Wouldn't be caught dead watching anything but PBS or Mad Men or would NEVER watch any superhero TV show or movie? People look down their noses at certain entertainment (okay, reality shows might fit, heh heh) but so many fannish people diss sports, too. I like a world of variety, and what's more varied than watching the Hollywood elite try and say interesting stuff without a script? ;)

So sit back, get out your cheese and crackers, put your feet up and watch the glitz 'n' glamour! :)

I like Oscar night too. It's always too long, most of the speeches are boring, I don't usually agree with the winners or even most of the nominees (2003 with LOTR:ROTK aside). But its still something I try not to miss - I love watching the clips for the actors and seeing something that makes me want to drive for an hour to see the movie in the closest theatre.

Did you see any movies worth the drive? :)

I thought it was a rather lackluster show this year. Nothing really buzzed. The gowns and jewelry were interesting, as always, but beyond that...meh. The Red Carpet Show was the best part! ;)

I always get sucked in every year, though. Though I tend to fall asleep (great sleeping pill!) as it usually wraps up around midnight here. Unless I really have an interest in who wins Best Actor, Actress or Picture, I don't try and stay up.

Of all the best picture candidates, Selma* interests me the most. I'll wait to see Birdman and Boyhood on my TV - they don't strike me as visually interesting enough to warrant that drive.

Still smarting over the exclusion of The Lego Movie from the animated picture. I thought Everything Is Awesome and Glory from Selma were the highlights of the evening. A few good speeches too. A B- overall, mainly because there were so few films I really cared about.

* ETA - I meant to say of the films I haven't seen already... Grand Budapest Hotel tops my overall list. I nearly gave up on it when I was watching on Netflix - the opening is just so slow and aimless. But the period bits when the GBH is at its glamorous peak - a wonderful homage to vintage Hollywood (the Grand Hotel).

The Lego Movie was fun! My sister and I were in the mood for something fluffy and silly and so we saw it in the theater and laughed and grinned. :)

Love the song! It fit that movie so well.

I thought of going to see Grand Budapest Hotel but in the end it didn't really grab me.
