It depends a bit on where you are locally what all the festivals at this time of year will be. But for example it's only a few days to St. Martin's Day, which is widely celebrated, so about now kids will be making their own lanterns in school and kindergarten and on the evening of the day kids and parents will do a procession with the kids carrying their lanterns and singing traditional songs and usually an adult dresses up as the saint and accompanies or leads the procession on horseback. (Usually they replay the famous story of the saint sharing his coat with a beggar at some point.) In some places there are bonfire festivals, too.

We did get traditional pastries on that day, but what you'll get varies throughout Germany.
