Summer Solstice!!!

A Happy Summer Solstice to you all! :)

Funny how with the first day of summer and the longest day of the year, we're really entering the dark half of the year. But such is Nature!

Finished my weekly cleaning. Everything's sparkling! :)

I now have 41,000+ words written so far for my dcu_bang. *dances*

I hope to get back to my Avengers story and I came up with possible Steve/Bucky idea last night. I'm still holding out hope that I'll get some inspiration to write Steve/Thor and Steve/Sam, but right now Steve/Bucky is the hot pairing for my Muses.

That Steve/Diana story that's been sitting around may be posted soon.

What's up with LJ? Actually listening to feedback? Or is this just the ol' shell game? A pity that they started responding after everyone left. Ah, well, at least it'll benefit those of us die-hards who stuck around. I like the option of keeping my old Friends page and the subject lines back again. Maybe these new owners get it. Anyway, check out lj_feedback if you're curious.

I don't think LJ will become the fannish go-to platform again, but who knows? If people get tired of the shiny new baubles like Tumblr, maybe they'll return. I follow a few blogs over there and it's frustrating to just see people hitting the 'Like' button and reblogging and very little commentary. How do you get a sense of someone by just that? I guess social media likes it that way these days. I'll stick with LJ and DW for my little niche of fandom, thanks.

Happy Solstice to you!

Congrats on word count!

Yeah! For community on LJ and taking time to do more than 'like'!

Happy Solstice to you! :)

Yep, so far so good on the word count. I don't think I'll hit 50,000 but it's going to be up there. I have a couple of more chapters to write before the first draft's finished.

LJ has a lot of problems but the good thing about it is that sense of community. It's why I'm still here.

Oh, it's great to hear you're making progress on the dcu_bang story!

Oh, I'd love to read more Steve/Thor and Steve/Sam! Hope you get some ideas for that!

Maybe these new owners get it

I hope so. But at least they seem to have a much better way of handling things so far than the previous ones... Let's hope it stays that way and that maybe they even manage to recognize LJ's selling point for what they are and manage to get new users in. I can hope.

Yeah, I'll stick with LJ/DW as long as it's possible too. I just don't get the sense of connection with most other social media platforms and actual discussions are frustrating to follow on tumblr. And frankly all the misinformation that gets reblogged endlessly despite other people pointing it out grates on my nerves sometimes. It's not all bad, but connection and discussion are really important for me and the fast moving echo-chambery ways of tumblr are not giving me what I'm looking for.

I was stalled for awhile on the story but it all came back! :)

One of these days I'll write those pairings.

I won't hold my breath about LJ, but at least it's promising.

Ha, I like that description of Tumblr! Echo-chambery! That's about right. :)

Yeah, I won't either, but everything that puts of the demise is welcome at this point...

Thisssss. It's so frustrating that once something's out there there's almost no way to recall or rebut it, even if the original poster wants to. Tumblr sometimes feels like an infinite line of people, each person yelling messages forward in an endless game of "Telephone," with no one talking face to face.

That is such a good way of describing the way tumblr communications works - and doesn't work sometimes! There are quote a few thing tumblr is good for, but damn, this circle of the same non-fact-checked posts ending up on you dashboard again and again despite many other people correcting the original post can be so frustrating.

Happy Solstice, sweetie! :D

Glad to hear you've gotten so much written for your DCU_Bang; I've written exactly nothing so far. XD

Happy Solstice, Saavi! :)

LOL, don't worry about it. You've got the idea. You'll be writing soon! :)

Bright blessings! Glad to hear your bunnies are wide awake & hopping around - mine seem to be in a coma.

I am on Tumblr for the pretty pictures mostly :)

Merry Solstice, m'dear! :)

Heh, the bunnies are hungry right now.

And Tumblr does pretty pictures very well. That's why I follow a few of the blogs. :)

Merry late solstice to you! I just finished 2 hours of writing and am feeling joyous! *hugs*

Merry Solstice! I kept the blinds open until it was too dark to see without a light and enjoyed the long evening. :)

Two hours of writing a big accomplishment! *hugs*

It sure would be nice if LJ did reclaim its position in fandom. I tried Tumblr, but eventually found myself not going there because it was mostly pretty pictures and a very small amount of reblogging. I never did figure out how to leave a comment on a lot of the posts. Tumblr would always tell me that it wasn't actually working on my computer and to go to another ISP. But I don't think that would help since I have an IBM Mac, so I've decided to just give up on Tumbler. Facebook, well, just forget that. I have it set up so I get emails when certain people post, but there, too, it's mostly fluff. Even DW isn't on my hit parade. I have an account but never go there. Isn't it just like LJ, so what's the point of both?

Oh, and yea! for you on your story.
Jun. 22nd, 2014 02:59 pm (UTC)
I've never bothered getting a Tumblr account. Seems like a lot of time wasted on the dashboard that endlessly scrolls, and it's not good for my clunky computer, either. I'm not a big fan of Facebook, but am on DW. I use it to back-up my LJ.

While I would love for the energy to return here to LJ, the pace suits me right now and I'm happy here. And A03 helps a lot by giving my work a broader audience. You get kudos there but some people actually comment! :)
Jun. 23rd, 2014 10:07 am (UTC)
There's a way to change Tumblr to not scroll, which is what I did. Still, it was beginning to get tiring.

And, yes, AO3 is a godsend. While some of my fandoms have large, much-used archives, some don't.
Jun. 23rd, 2014 02:50 pm (UTC)
I've had fandoms with pretty good-sized archives, too, but they're abandoned or taken down now. I figure with A03, there's a good chance that it may stay up awhile. :)
Jun. 24th, 2014 01:07 pm (UTC)
I've been lucky so far, that almost all my major fandoms (K/S, Pros and MFU,) all have large archives that don't appear to be going anywhere. Especially with K/S, the archive continues to grow. Truthfully, DC is my only major fandom that doesn't have a good, central archive. Not one that I've been able to find, anyway. There was one for awhile where I posted my first B/D story, but the archive has since disappeared.

DC has always been an iffy fandom and since the Reboot, drove a lot of people away. A pity, as you've got over 70 years of canon to work with, if you absolutely need canon to create. I've always considered canon merely the jumping-off point. Fandom used to be creating fanworks because the canon had ended, now it appears people need fresh material to create fanworks.
Jun. 25th, 2014 11:45 am (UTC)
I've always preferred staying within canon as much as I can, but with DC that's a fool's errand. I haven't read too much of the Reboot, but if I don't like it my jumping-off point will just be right before it starts. Like with the rest, I'll take what I like and leave the rest.
Jun. 25th, 2014 02:50 pm (UTC)
The Reboot has a few good things, but the bad outweighs the good, IMO.

Like with the rest, I'll take what I like and leave the rest.

That's the spirit! :)
